Before we break up for christmas we have been given one more brief, looking at one of my favourite things in life editorials. For this project we have been allocated a creative concept that has been taken from an existing editorial shoot from the the Vogue archive in the university Library; we have been given the May 2004 edition of vogue to look at and the editorial 'Let's Dance' by Corrine Day.
The first thing I did after finding out which editorial I will be looking at was to do a brief search on the photographer, since I hadn't come across Corrine Day before and just wanted to know a little bit of background information about her and her photography style before we started to analyse the photos within the editorial. Day, who sadly passed away in 2010 was a self taught photographer within her work she took a hard edged documentary style to fashion image making where she, on a regular basis included biographical elements and it was often described that she had quite a grunge approach. This grunge style is something that is hinted at within the editorial but it isn't that strong as it's been mixed with more softer, pretty elements.
'Let's Dance - Give a cool edge to the season's dance-inspired dresses'

The title of the shoot 'Lets dance' really sums it up, from the staging to the style and even the poses of the models it's clear that it is dance inspired. On first glances, for me it looks like a typical editorial shoot theres nothing particularly stage or abstract about it, but it's when I started to look at it in a greater depth that it really opened up. When you think of dancers and performance you think over the top bright, vibrant now yes there is a handful of vibrant colours throughout the shoot mainly in the last image but the rest of the colours are quite muted, pastel tones nothing too over the top.
For the brief we also have to create are own photoshoot taking inspiration from this editorial and pair it with an accessory, the accessory we had to look at was make up. But you look at the make up used within this photoshoot it is very neutral, now I find all these combinations quite odd theres nothing theatrical about it, instead the images gives a realism vibe.
