Finishing off the year in a way only Chanel would do. The Chanel Autumn/ Winter pre fall 2017 was the sixth's and final runway show of 2016 for the brand, and in my opinion it was the best of the year although it is quite hard to chose between them all; Karl Lagerfeld always seem to come up with the most ingenious of idea.
"The Ritz is very gilded" - Karl Lagerfeld "Look, white with gold"
The shows always seem to be held in the most beautiful an stunning locations with this show being no exception held in the newly refurbished Paris Hotel it really was the ideal location that both show cased the looks and garments, but also seemed to make them fit in so perfectly. As if a moment captured in time was being played in the present, although there is some historical elements to the thought put into the location since through the duration of WWII Coco Chanel lived in the Ritz from 1937 and he died there in 1971, which I feel added quite intimate and personal feeling to the show, in all the show was really on the back door step of the brands history, with the house of Chanel just steps away.
The show featuring Pharrell Williams was severed in three sittings lunch, tea and dinner where the models walked their way around the tables in the hotel lobby and specially built "Jardin d'hived" in a way that felt as though you were just sat there watching the models go about their day to day life, almost forgetting that you were actually watching a runway show, because the garments matched the grander of the hotel itself.
There was such a fun atmosphere to the show, the models walking with a spring in their step to upbeat music, it also saw the them dancing around the tables, it really was a unique atmosphere that was created.
"In those days, even to the 60's, there were one or two designers who dictated what everyone wore. That is not the case today, when there are thousands of images of fashion available, so anyone can choose to wear what suits her". Karl Lagerfeld
In Chanel style we saw there iconic looks as alway present themselves on the runway with revived looks. The show for me personally, felt as if had come from the 'roaring 20's' or the 'flapper' era but with a twist of contemporary style, everything within the collection seemed so timeless but so current at the same time from midi skirts, bubble-shaped capes and skinny knit silvery dresses just a few of the many pieces that showed this.
One things that I loved about the pieces is that they were all flattering, yet didn't hug the body tightly instead they just worked with each of the models natural curves creating elegant silhouettes that look so effortless but the garments were far from this. Even the colour scheme remained neutral with creams, grey, blacks and browns, soft pinks but companied with a splash of red shown either through the lip stick, head dresses or nail polish or even a full red looks to break up the show and draw your focus.
It really was a grand affair that included heavily beaded garments, sparkles, warm gold tones, draped layers of pearl necklaces, all you would associate with luxury.
