Pink - It's more that just a colour

So as you have probably gathered this blog is about pink, and no not VS pink but the colour.
Now ask any of my family members or close friends they will inform you that pink is by far a favourite colour of mine, there were times when it seemed that everything I owned was pink (mainly when I was between the ages of 5-10) and then there were times in my early teenage years where I toned it down when sometimes the only pink being on a logo of a top; I will be the first to hold my hands up and say my style has been forever changing and yes there was a year or two where I manly wore black, trying to be a little rebellious but thats in the past so I won't go into too much detail (although on occasion a scary time hop will bring back the memories of that period in my life).

Anyway back to Pink, for the past 12 months it has been one of the more predominant colours in the shops, bringing back my obsession but instead of the Barbie doll pink of my childhood I have been drawn towards the more pale tones, such the dust pink, the blush pink and the candy floss pink; Jesus how many times can I use the word pink in a sentence ....
Its a colour that everyone seems to be embracing even men, which does not mean that they are at all feminine in the slightest and I will always disagree with anyone that says otherwise. I fact I think it shows of a confidence, men who wear pink aren't afraid to be judged and why should we.

The blend of Rose Quarts and Serenity have been awarded Pantone's colour of the year 2016, and for the first time it has featured the blending of two colours; which I think shows how these new shades/ tones of pink we are seeing are becoming easier to pair along with other colour without looking like a member of the 'mean girls' cast wearing pink on Wednesday.
"The prevalent combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity also challenges traditional perceptions of color association." - Pantone
We are starting to see the gender boundaries break within the fashion society and other societies throughout the world. I was brought up with the idea of pink being for girls and blue being for boys no in-between; but with gender equality beginning to have more power in todays society these stereotypes are becoming a thing of the past. People are starting to view things as not solely for a male or female, boy or girl they are starting to ignore labels, instead if a person likes something they will buy it no matter if its out of the mens or ladies section of a shop; it's their money, their option and most importantly its none of are business.
This shade and shades similar to this pink has also featured in a number of christmas adverts this year, some would say it's not festive but I disagree, if you think about it pink it really just a watered/ washed down version of red right?
This is shown in the H&M christmas advert 'Come together', that has been one of the most talked about christmas adverts, I mean its not in your face pink but instead they have cleverly included the colour whether it is slightly seen in the lighting used, the lady dressed head to toe in pink lounge wear, the wrapping paper of present that are yet to be opened, elements of text over laying the advert or even the decorations of the christmas tree at the end of the advert. They have really embraced this new found colour of pink, but it has not only been used in their tv advert but it has featured strongly in their shop windows.

Numerous designers are embracing the colour and it doesn't seem like it will fade away in 2017 either with it being set to be one of the new years many trends, but we are even expected to see the unthought about paring of yellow and pink which is set to be one of the strongest combinations for the year (I personally don't know how I feel about this but we will see how it plays out). I mean yellow is one of the brightest colours out there but surprisingly pairing Rose quarts with yellow instead of paring pastel with pastel, actually refreshes this pink shade.
Designer Ulla Johnson is one of many who has invested in this pairing of colours, combining velvet pink overalls with a yellow turtle neck giving of a Sulfur-ish tint resulted in quite a clever look, in your mind you would probably think alarm bells, what is happening, but it has resulted in a look that is pleasing on the eye not offensive in anyway.
The only thing now is to see where this trend goes, I'm certain that pink will still be round as one of the predominant colours of 2017 but for me the jury is still out on whether yellow will be joining it.
