It can be seen as chaos for any outsider, when the worlds fashion weeks come around. It's a revolving cycle that comes about every 12 months without fail, it a day in day out kind of world signing up to business of fashion recently has shown me this, getting constant regular updates on the fashion world.
It almost appears as though there are no rules to the fashion anymore.
There are four key cities around the that hold annual fashion weeks these are known as fashion capitals, where they are descended on my all walks of people within the fashion world New York, Paris, London and Milan. Fashion weeks are a way for designers/ brands to display there most recent collections in a runway show to both the buyers and media at one time, that influence both trend both current and future trends that we might see.
The are primarily two kinds of shows menswear and womenswear, that are also particular clothes for each location for example Paris holds haute couture shows along side these.
Womenswear is normally shown around February (S/S) and September/October (A/W) in the following order; New York, London, Millan and Paris.
Menswear is normally held in January (S/S) and June/July (A/W) in the following order London, Millan, Paris and New York.
Recently more and more designer are starting to show 'inter-seasonal collections' which are held between the traditional Autumn/ winter and Spring/ Summer shows, with them quite often being more commercial that have be design to help shorter the wait for new season clothes the two collection that run in these shows are resort/ cruise before Spring/ summer and Pre-fall before Autumn/ winter, although there is no fixed date or month for these shows they are typically held 3 months after the main shows, and are sometimes held outside of the four major cites.
The main designers for fashion week usually show their collections in the cities that have most inspired that season specific collection or for their on preference, and example of this is the new Fenty x Puma collection featuring Rhianna where it was shown at Paris Fashion week, were some/ most of the pieces were inspired by Palatial spaces and the edwardian era which is, still do this day noticeable in the architecture within Paris along with the vast collections of art work.
Below is an example list of some of the shows that are held in each of the fashion Capital;
New York -
Marc Jacobs, Yeezy, Tom Ford, Michael Kors, DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger and Alexander Wang
London -
Burberry, Paul Smith, Henry Holland, Topshop Unique, Tom Ford and Molly Goddard
Paris-
Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Valentino, Kenzo, Stella Mccartney, Alexander McQueen, Dior, Celine and Chloe
And Finally Milan -
Moschino, Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Dolce and Gabbana and Versace
Where each of these designers/ brand decide to show case there lasted work has a lot to do with characteristics of the city itself, New York is modern and commercial where as London is grand and historical, you couldn't really see a Yeezy at London fashion week now could you, picking the perfect city can equal success for a new collection.
